Erin Mills Soccer Club (EMSC) partnered with the Back2Play Concussion Research team to provide our development and competitive teams with an interactive concussion education event.
On March 24, members of the Back2Play team came to our EMSC Clubhouse to educate our teams. There were eight teams that were able to participate in the activities and learn more about the prevention, recognition and management of concussions in kids.
This event followed virtual sessions that Back2Play hosted with our teams during the most recent lockdown.
The Back2Play Concussion Research team is from McMaster University in Hamilton, Ontario. Their research included evidence-based Return to Activity and Return to School Guidelines for children and youth that have sustained a concussion. The team has also developed the Back2Play App, which helps children and youth following a concussion. The Back2Play team is headed by Carol DeMatteo, Professor Emeritus. Our session was run by Deborah Gjertsen, Knowledge Broker together with other members of the Back2Play team.
Erin Mills Soccer Club wants to thank the Back2Play Concussion Research team for hosting this event with us. We look forward to working together to help educate our members on concussions.
